Whitney Osuigwe: 15-year old Nigerian-American making waves in International Junior Tennis

Whitney Osuigwe, born on April 17 2002 in Bradenton, Florida, U.S to Desmond Osuigwe, a professional tennis coach originally from Nigeria, is making a name for herself in Junior Tennis.
Only recently, Whitney became the reigning champion of the Junior French Open Tournament after beating fellow American Claire Liu.
Now ranking as the number 1 Junior girls player in the world, according to theInternational Tennis Federation, Whitney Osuigwe is currently on track to win her second major Tennis tournament this year  after advancing to the quarterfinals of the ongoing Wimbledon Championships girls’ singles tournament.
But don’t be deceived; though young (15 years old), Whitney’s wins are by no means the result of an overnight success story.
Whitney’s father, a staff coach at the world renowned IMG Sports Academy, with over 25 years of experience, has had Whitney on the Tennis court since the age of six and over the years Whitney has advanced through the various levels of the academy’s training program. Whitney Osuigwe only successfully turned pro this year.
With persistence and hard work Whitney Osuigwe has become a heavy hitter and is likely to go on making waves. We are seriously rooting for her!

Roger Federer beats Marin Cilic to win record eighth Wimbledon title

Image
ALREADY a legend, Roger Federer has elevated even higher into the grand slam stratosphere with an eighth Wimbledon triumph and 19th major success. Defying age and a wounded Marin Cilic, the 35-year-old snared another large chunk of history with a runaway 6-3 6-1 6-4 victory at the sport’s spiritual home. Hampered by a blister on his left foot, Cilic struggled to reproduce the sparkling form which had carried him to a maiden All England Club final, dissolving in tears as his hopes slipped away. The US Open winner slipped over in the fifth game and, rattled, lost seven of the next eight games — and he failed to threaten thereafter. His pile-driving serve deserted him and unforced errors flowed in shattering disappointment. As usual, Federer showed no mercy as he ended a five-year title drought at Wimbledon, adding to his 2003-07, 2009 and 2012 crowns. With 22 winners and a mere eight unforced errors, Federer was classes above his hobbled opponent. One of the sport...

Last Saturday, Lai Mohammed disclosed this plan when he spoke at the  Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON) House in Lagos. In a recent chat with Premiumtimes, Lai Mohammed said the proposed ban would help tackle the exploitation of perceived loopholes in the Nigerian Broadcasting Code, NBC. “The NBC code today as it stands has been exploited and not defined and that’s why movies being directed by Nigerians with Nigerian actors, actresses can be shot in South Africa and then brought back to be consumed in Nigeria. All we are saying is that we are going to amend the code in a manner that it will not be possible for you to exploit any loophole there to go and shoot outside Nigeria film, music or programs that are meant to be consumed in Nigeria". Lagos CP Fatai Owoseni By New Independence Group Close to 60 days after the now sadly famous six schoolboys of Igbo Nla in Epe were abducted while studying, anxiety continues to mount over their safety, as fears are now being expressed over the possibility of unpalatable reality that the kidnappers, having been paid substantially, are unable to return them as a result of the unthinkable. At the New Independence Group( NIG), we earnestly pray and hope for the safe return of the kids, in the hope that they are not already traumatized beyond what they could bear. It is very worrisome that children are being routinely grabbed even from the allegedly fortified walls of schools by criminals, as a means of extorting parents, rightly or wrongly, regarded as well off. It is terrifying for parents to worry daily about their kids returning safely from school, bearing in mind the possibility of a strange, heartrending call about their abduction. It is doubtful too, that the remaining stud...
