Dance Hit ‘Despacito’ Becomes Most-Streamed Of time Dethroning Justin Bieber's Sorry



Catchy summer dance song “Despacito” has set a record as the most streamed music track of all time, with some 4.6 billion plays across leading platforms, record company Universal Music said on Wednesday.

The song, first released in January in Spanish by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi and rapper Daddy Yankee and then in a remixed version featuring Justin Bieber, has topped charts in 35 countries around the world and dominated radio play.

Its 4.6 billion streams surpass the record set by Bieber with his 2015 single “Sorry” and its remixes and make it the most successful Spanish-language pop song of all time.


“Despacito” (“Slowly”) has spent 10 consecutive weeks on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart, 17 weeks at No.1 in Spain and 9 weeks in the top spot in Britain, Universal Music said.

Fonsi, previously little known outside Puerto Rico, said it was “truly an honour that ‘Despacito’ is now the most streamed song in history.”

The mood was grim in East Jerusalem on Sunday as Palestinians voiced concern over the deadliest outbreak of violence between Israel and Palestinians for years. On Saturday Israel sent extra troops into the occupied West Bank and its police broke up a crowd of stone-throwing Palestinians in Jerusalem. The Palestinian Health Ministry said one Palestinian was killed during a separate clash outside the city, taking the death toll from the past two days to seven. Three Israelis were stabbed to death on Friday while eating dinner in a West Bank settlement. Mark Corallo  has resigned from his position as spokesman and communications strategist  for President Donald Trump's  legal team. His resignation comes after weeks of tension between the White House and the President's legal team. In recent weeks, Trump has said that his legal team has not done enough to beat back allegations linked to the federal investigations into Russian efforts to influence last year's election.  The legal team has also complained about the President and the White House's response to revelations concerning the Russia probe including the President's refusal to heed their advice not to publicly discuss or tweet about the Russia investigation and with the White House's handling of reports connected to the probe. According to CNN, the man identified as Nidal Aboud stood out as one among many. As the men around him bowed, he made the sign of the cross. The Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) has said Nigerians should expect a new data price as soon as an on-going cost-based research is concluded. This was disclosed in Abuja by the Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, Umar Garba Dambatta during a chat with DAILY POST. According to him, the commission had noticed that the level of data usage was growing across the country and there was need for an affordable and acceptable price floor for data. A former Minister of Education, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, has called out the Nigerian Senate for directing the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to supply dollars at a subsidised exchange rate of N200 to intending pilgrims. In a series of tweets on her verified Tweeter handle on Saturday morning, @obyezeks, the Bring Back our Girls (BBOG) co-Convener, lashed out at the lawmakers describing them as “feeling entitled to an indulgent life”. The Senate had in its bid to bring down the cost of pilgrimage recommended the concession of N200 to $1 by the CBN to intending pilgrims, despite the CBN’s benchmark of N305 to $1 for the 2017 Hajj operations.
