Tears As el-Rufai, Aisha Buhari, Others Launch Yasmin El-Rufai Foundation

Kaduna State Governor,Malam Nasir El-Rufai, Wife of the President,Aisha Buhari among other dignitaries at the weekend officially launched the governor’s late daughter’s ‘Yasmin El-Rufai Foundation’ (YELF) amidst tears.

Governor El-Rufai who broke in tears during the event held at Kaduna International Trade Fair described his late daughter as a wonderful child who had passion for the less privileged in the society.

The governor said the foundation which is privately run has creative writing and women literacy programmes aimed at improving the literacy skills among women and children:” As I was watching the documentary, I cannot control tears in my eyes. She was a wonderful daughter. Apart from Yasmin,we also lost a son. The foundation is being run privately. We will continue to support creative initiatives in Kaduna.”

On her part, the wife of Kaduna State Governor, Hadiza Isma El-Rufai, said she set up the foundation in her late daughter’s name to immortalise her and to keep her creative vision alive.

According to her, the foundation literacy programme is targeted at women who cannot write and speak English adding that the foundation apart from organising workshops will also establish creative writing clubs in schools to nurture young boys and girls.

Wife of President,Hajiya Aisha Buhari,who was represented by former Plateau State Deputy Governor, Mrs Pauline Talen,while paying tribute to the Governor’s late daughter said the foundation is timely and a welcome development.

Buhari’s wife, however, called on parents to nurture their children in creating skills.

Also,in her message,Deputy Secretary General, United Nations, Amina Mohammed, said education holds the key to poverty eradication, stressing that quality education must be promoted to bring back out of school children: “UN will continue to support the education of our children because it is the only key to eradicate poverty in the society. We commend the founder of Yasmin El-Rufai Foundation (YELF) for providing creative skills to the young ones” she said.

"Don't let people kiss your baby" mother warns after newborn baby girl dies days after someone with herpes kissed her

An 18-day-old baby has died after she contracted a life-threatening herpes infection through a kiss. Baby Mariana was born healthy on July 1, however, on July 7, which was her parents' wedding day, she became ill and had to be rushed to the hospital where doctors tried unsuccessfully to save her life. Iowa couple, Shane and Nicole Sifrit had to cut their wedding reception short to take their 6-day-old daughter to the Blank Children's Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, USA. At the hospital, doctors said the child had become infected with meningitis HSV-1, which is caused by the herpes virus. TRAGEDY: 14 people burnt to death as tanker collides with commercial bus

Witnesses say the dead, who were consumed in the inferno, include women and children. The accident was said to have occurred at about 12 noon in front of a fuel station, few metres away from the popular Mayfair roundabout. An 18-seater commercial bus heading from Ondo State to Ibadan collided with a diesel-filled tanker that was negotiating a U-turn on the way, witnesses said. It was learnt that on collision, the bus burst into flames, burning most of the passengers beyond recognition. Witnesses told journalists that the extent of damage resulted from the delayed arrival of rescue teams to the accident spot. Nigeria to supply 130,000 tonnes of roasted cashew nuts to US

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Audu Ogbeh, has said Nigeria is set to supply 130,000 tonnes of roasted cashew nuts to the Walmart Super Market chain in the United States of America. He said the 130,000 cashew is valued at $7 billion. Chief Ogbeh said the US firm came to Nigeria to request for 130,000 tonnes of roasted cashew nuts and their demand is 130,000 tonnes of cashew nuts per annum, with a total value of $7 billion. “We are in conversations with Walmart, the biggest supermarket chain in the US. They came here and asked us to roast cashew nuts for them. “What Nigeria currently does is ship the nuts to Vietnam, which in turn roasts and sell to the US. Jim Vance, one of the first black major news anchors and Washington DC's longest serving local TV host has died at the age of 75 following a long battle with cancer. Station president and general manager, Jackie Bradford in a statement said, 'Jim Vance was not only the soul of NBC4 but of the entire Washington area. His smooth voice, brilliant mind and unforgettable laugh leaves each of us with a tremendous void'. Man kidnaps himself and demands N60million from siblings

The Lagos state police command have arrested one Ufom Udoh for allegedly staging his kidnap in order to defraud his siblings of N60 million. According to the state police command's spokesperson, Olarinde Famous-Cole, Udoh had left his home on July 3rd and connived with his friend, Paul Okiemute, to defraud his brother, Victor Udoh and his other siblings of N60 million by way of staging his own kidnap. Victor had on July 3rd reported a case of a kidnapped person in Lagos state to the police. The case was then transferred to the state's anti-kidnapping unit, who during its investigation, traced all calls the complainant got on his phone. This led to the arrest of one Paul Okiemute. When arrested, Okiemute, confessed that Udoh staged his own kidnap to collect money from his elder brother due to his financial problems.  “Udoh was not kidnapped. It was all planned. Minister of information and culture Lai Mohammed sheds light On FG's plan to stop movie and music production abroad

Minister of Information and Culture, Lia Mohammed, has shed more light on plans by the Federal government to stop entertainers and movie makers from shooting their jobs outside the shores of Nigeria. Last Saturday, Lai Mohammed disclosed this plan when he spoke at the  Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON) House in Lagos. Flood took over Suleja in Niger State following a heavy downpour that started in the early hours on Sunday. About 10 residents are missing and feared dead as residents told Channels Television that some who had attempted to leave their submerged homes for safety were swept away by the flood.
