Nigeria's famous blogger Linda Ikeji's younger sister Laura Ikeji Kanu and her hubby, Ogbonna Kanu, have welcomed a son. Laura gave birth in the early hours of today in a hospital in the US. The baby's name is Ryan. Big congrats to Laura and Ogbonna.

Nigeria to supply 130,000 tonnes of roasted cashew nuts to US

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Audu Ogbeh, has said Nigeria is set to supply 130,000 tonnes of roasted cashew nuts to the Walmart Super Market chain in the United States of America. He said the 130,000 cashew is valued at $7 billion. Chief Ogbeh said the US firm came to Nigeria to request for 130,000 tonnes of roasted cashew nuts and their demand is 130,000 tonnes of cashew nuts per annum, with a total value of $7 billion. “We are in conversations with Walmart, the biggest supermarket chain in the US. They came here and asked us to roast cashew nuts for them. “What Nigeria currently does is ship the nuts to Vietnam, which in turn roasts and sell to the US. This year, we are going to create six cashew processing factories in Nigeria, each to be cited in Enugu, Imo, Benue, Kogi, Kwara and Oyo states. These are the cashew belts for now. Veteran news anchor, Jim Vance dies at 75 after long battle with cancer

Jim Vance, one of the first black major news anchors and Washington DC's longest serving local TV host has died at the age of 75 following a long battle with cancer. Station president and general manager, Jackie Bradford in a statement said, 'Jim Vance was not only the soul of NBC4 but of the entire Washington area. His smooth voice, brilliant mind and unforgettable laugh leaves each of us with a tremendous void'. Vance, who won more than a dozen Emmys, was one of the first African-American news anchors to host a show in a major news market in 1972. He became one of former president George H.W. Bush's fishing buddies and a confidante to the city's former mayor, Marion Barry, who died in 2014.

Minister of Information and Culture, Lia Mohammed, has shed more light on plans by the Federal government to stop entertainers and movie makers from shooting their jobs outside the shores of Nigeria. Last Saturday, Lai Mohammed disclosed this plan when he spoke at the  Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON) House in Lagos. The Senate has confirmed eight Resident Electoral Commissioners of the Independent Electoral Commission . The Senate has confirmed eight Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) of the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC). The eight were among the remaining twelve nominees awaiting the confirmation of their appointments by the upper legislative house. The lawmakers had earlier approved the appointment of 15 others out of the 27 sent to the Senate by President Muhammadu Buhari. The confirmation is coming a day after the Senate made a u- turn on its earlier decision not to confirm any nominee from Acting President Yemi Osinbajo until all issues as regards confirmation of appointments are resolved. Suleiman Nazif, Chairman of the Senate Committee on INEC at plenary on Wednesday, said the nominees were screened by the police, Code of Conduct Bureau and Department of State Services before their appointments were approved. TRAGEDY: 14 people burnt to death as tanker collides with commercial bus

Witnesses say the dead, who were consumed in the inferno, include women and children. The accident was said to have occurred at about 12 noon in front of a fuel station, few metres away from the popular Mayfair roundabout. An 18-seater commercial bus heading from Ondo State to Ibadan collided with a diesel-filled tanker that was negotiating a U-turn on the way, witnesses said. It was learnt that on collision, the bus burst into flames, burning most of the passengers beyond recognition. Witnesses told journalists that the extent of damage resulted from the delayed arrival of rescue teams to the accident spot. The bus was also carrying heavy metal objects which further propelled the bus and caused serious injuries to the passengers upon the collision before the bus caught fire. Only two passengers...
