Scientist who discovered HIV says efforts for cure underway

Francoise Barre-Sinoussi [Photo: CNN.com] A Nobel Laureate, Francoise Barre-Sinoussi, says efforts are ongoing to develop a universal cure for HIV and cancer through collaboration. Barre-Sinoussi, a co-discoverer of the HIV, said this in Paris while conducting some select journalists on a tour of the sophisticated laboratories at Institut Pasteur. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Barre-Sinoussi and Luc Montagnier co-discovered the HIV in 1983. She also stated that the HIV Cure and Cancer Forum would on Saturday be inaugurated at the Institut Curie in Paris. “Efforts are now underway to determine if these cancer therapies can be used to build up the immune system of patients with HIV. “This will be in such a way that HIV patients can achieve a durable and perhaps life-long treatment–free state of remission,’’ she said. Different people, Different Cultures! So there is a Crying Baby Contest (Naki Sumo) that holds in Japan every year. This year, the competition held at the Shinto shrine in Yokohama, near Tokyo on Monday July 17th. The contest pairs up little toddlers with sumo wrestlers who will attempt to get the babies to cry. The toddler who cries the longest and loudest is crowned the winner. As bizarre as it may be, the crying baby contest has been practised by Japenese indigenes for well over 400 years. Japanese parents voluntarily bring their babies to the contest, and truly believe that sumo-induced crying keeps their children in good health.

New Studies Say Drinking More Coffee Leads To A Longer Life.

According to two newly published studies, greater consumption of coffee could lead to a longer life. One study surveyed more than 520,000 people in 10 European countries, making it the largest study to date on coffee and mortality, and found that drinking more coffee could significantly lower a person's risk of mortality. The second study focused on non-white populations. After surveying over 185,000 African-Americans, Native Americans, Hawaiians, Japanese-Americans, Latinos and whites, the researchers found that coffee increases longevity across various races. Veronica Wendy Setiawan, associate professor of preventative medicine at USC's Keck School of Medicine, who led the study on nonwhite populations said 'people who drank two to four cups a day had an 18% lower risk of death compared with people who did not drink coffee. This viral photo shows a Catholic Christian man praying alongside Muslims in the Wadi el-Joz neighbourhood, outside the Old City of Jerusalem. According to CNN, the man identified as Nidal Aboud stood out as one among many. As the men around him bowed, he made the sign of the cross. As they chanted their prayers, he read the Bible to himself. And as they said "Allahu Akbar" -- God is greatest -- he stood silently and respectfully. He was the only Christian among thousands of Muslims at the Friday prayers. The photo has been widely shared on social network sites as a touching example of cooperation in a time of conflict. This happened after Delta Airlines lost his luggage. On the t-shirt, he shared his predicament writing: 'This wedding suit is courtesy of Delta Airlines'. According to Dailymail, the unidentified newlywed was on a flight from Washington DC to Iceland where his ceremony was due to take place, but his luggage somehow later turned up in Frankfurt. Olu Onagoruwa, former attorney-general, suffered a stroke after his son was brutally killed by the military - Many civil and human rights activist have continues to mourn the demise of Onagoruwa considered as one of them Nigeria’s former attorney-general, Dr Olu Onagoruwa is dead. Onagoruwa, a known human rights activist, was said to have died in the early hours of Friday, July 21 at age 80. The former Attorney-General of the Federation under the military government between 1993 and 1994 was said to have suffered a stroke following the brutal killing of his son by the military. Respected across Africa, Onagoruwa was part of those who drafted the Ethiopian constitution in 1994. The lawyer reportedly studied at the University of London for his LL.B; LL.M and PhD degrees.
