National Vice-President of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, South-South Zone Mr. Eddie Bekon, his wife and child dies rom a terrible gas explosion

Eddie and his family died on Sunday at the Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki Ebonyi State, following severe burns sustained from the incident. However Briefing newsmen in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital, the chairman of SWAN, Mr. Chukwuemeka Opara, said Eddie died as a result of gas explosion which occurred in their compound in Ikom, Cross River State, three weeks ago. The incident reportedly affected his entire household, including his neighbour in whose flat the explosion happened. Opara said, “Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, Ebonyi chapter, joins other chapters across the nation to mourn its departed National Vice President, South-South zone, Mr. Eddie Bekon, who passed on at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, on Sunday, July 16, 2017.” Opara disclosed that the family had been in the Intensive Care Unit at the hospital since they were admitted, stating that the explosion claimed the lives of Eddie’s wife and one of his children, while his other children...

Catchy summer dance song “Despacito” has set a record as the most streamed music track of all time, with some 4.6 billion plays across leading platforms, record company Universal Music said on Wednesday. The song, first released in January in Spanish by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi and rapper Daddy Yankee and then in a remixed version featuring Justin Bieber, has topped charts in 35 countries around the world and dominated radio play. Tensions High In Jerusalem Over Recent Escalation In Violence

The mood was grim in East Jerusalem on Sunday as Palestinians voiced concern over the deadliest outbreak of violence between Israel and Palestinians for years. On Saturday Israel sent extra troops into the occupied West Bank and its police broke up a crowd of stone-throwing Palestinians in Jerusalem. The Palestinian Health Ministry said one Palestinian was killed during a separate clash outside the city, taking the death toll from the past two days to seven. Three Israelis were stabbed to death on Friday while eating dinner in a West Bank settlement. Acting President Yemi Osinbajo today received the founder of the Malala Fund and girls’ education activist, Malala Yousafzai at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. Malala, the Pakistani school girl who survived an attack by the Taliban, met with the Acting President at the State House in Abuja as part of activities to mark her visit to Nigeria which is the second in three years. APC Sweeps Lagos LG Polls

The All Progressives Congress has reportedly won the council election held in all the 20 Local Government Areas and the 37 Local Council Development Areas on Saturday. Early results released by the Lagos Television showed that the APC took several LGAs and LCDAs including Ojokoro, Eti Osa, Lagos Island, Badagry Central, Onigbongbo, Odiolowo/Ojuwoye, Ikorodu West, Ejigbo, Ikeja, Ikorodu, Epe, Lagos Island East, Badagry West, Surulere, Ikorodu Central, Ikoyi/Obalende, Agboyi-Ketu, Eredo and others. Some of the results from the LGs and LCDAs showed the ruling party winning. In Lagos Island LG, APC won with 14,692 votes while PDP got 925 votes, with the Labour Party taking third place with 1211 votes. APC also won in Ikoyi-Obalende LCDA with 7112 votes, PDP got 756 votes while LP got 542 votes. In Eredo LCDA, APC received 10910 votes while PDP got 737 votes. Japanese Airline Confirms Future BTC Payment Option In The Works

Peach Aviation, a low-cost airline in Japan, has confirmed that their plan to allow   Bitcoin (BTC)   as payment is only delayed, not cancelled. Peach Aviation had   initially announced in May 2017   that customers would be able to use Bitcoin as a payment method by the end of the year. However, in December 2017, the plan was postponed until March 2018. The airline had   partnered with crypto exchange BITpoint Japan   for the new BTC payment system as well as for plans to open Bitcoin ATMs at airports around Japan. Japan has   recognized Bitcoin as a legal payment   method in the country since April 2017.
