Here are 7 foods you've probably been storing wrong your entire life:

1. Storing yours eggs in their original carton on a shelf in the fridge keeps them fresh at least 3-4 weeks past the sell-by date. TIP: don't store your eggs on the door – this makes them more susceptible to temperature changes.

2. Store milk in the very back of the fridge where it's the coolest.

3. Always put your leftovers in the fridge within 2 hours after cooking it. Use a wide and shallow container and don't keep the leftovers for more than five days.

4. Store apples in plastic bags in the fridge. If you're storing apple slices, squeeze some lemon juice on them to prevent them from turning brown.

5. Do not wash your mushrooms before storing them. Place them in a paper bag in the fridge and keep them dry.

6. Keep your grapes in the bag you bought them in and wrap them with paper towel. This will absorb any moisture which could cause mold to grow. Don't wash them until you eat them.

7. Separate your bananas and wrap each stem in plastic. Do not store them in the fridge, or they will start to brown.
