Roger Federer climbs ATP rankings [See top 20] 2017



Roger Federer climbed to third place in the latest ATP rankings released on Monday.

This came a day after he claimed his record 8th Wimbledon title.

His 19th grand slam win saw Federer jump two places up the rankings, which is still dominated by Britain’s Andy Murray, who was eliminated from Wimbledon in the quarter-finals.

Rafael Nadal, knocked out in the fourth round, holds on to second place.

Boko Haram Suicide Bombers Attack Two IDP Camps In Borno, Kill 7

Suspected Boko Haram suicide bombers last night attacked two IDP camps in Dalori, Borno state killing at least seven persons. According to eyewitnesses, the first attack happened at about 9pm last night while the second bomb attack happened in the early hours of today. Three persons were killed in the first attack while four otrhers were killed in the second one. 15 other IDPs sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving treatement at the state general hospital.

Plot To Islamise Nigeria Is Real – Nnamdi Kanu

Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, yesterday, said that the plot to Islamise Nigeria is real but would be resisted. Kanu said that no part of Nigeria within Biafra territory will be islamised in his life time. The IPOB leader said this while addressing a huge crowd of Biafra activists when he visited Nri, the ancestral home of Ndigbo. At Nri, Kanu, who was accompanied by his wife, visited the historic “Ohianwehi” revered as “forest of life” by Igbo tradition. It is believed that it was where the first burnt offering was scarified by the Jewish Igbo ancestors when they migrated from Israel about 300 years ago. The Duomo in Florence has the largest brick dome ever and is often referred to as the “Birthplace of the Renaissance”. The dome was a huge challenge since ancient domes in Italy such as the Pantheon in Rome had been constructed using concrete but the recipe for concrete had been lost in the Dark Ages.  Medieval gothic cathedrals relied on flying buttresses to support their massive stone weight but architects and engineers of the budding Renaissance were determined not to use flamboyant Gothic and wanted to look back to the simple, clean lines of their Roman past. TRAGEDY: 14 people burnt to death as tanker collides with commercial bus

FILE PHOTO: FRSC officials at a scene of an accident No fewer than 14 persons have been reported dead in a ghastly tanker and bus collision in Ile-Ife, Osun State on Sunday. Witnesses say the dead, who were consumed in the inferno, include women and children. The accident was said to have occurred at about 12 noon in front of a fuel station, few metres away from the popular Mayfair roundabout. An 18-seater commercial bus heading from Ondo State to Ibadan collided with a diesel-filled tanker that was negotiating a U-turn on the way, witnesses said. It was learnt that on collision, the bus burst into flames, burning most of the passengers beyond recognition. Witnesses told journalists that the extent of damage resulted from the delayed arrival of rescue teams to the accident spot. The Director-General of the National Agency for the Control of AIDS, NACA, Sani Aliyu, said with the feat, the country has crossed the “tipping point” for the epidemic.
