At least eight people have died in a stampede at a football stadium in Senegal.

Fighting erupted between rival fans at the end of Saturday’s League Cup Final between Stade de Mbour and Union Sportive Ouakam at Demba Diop stadium in Dakar.

With the score 1-1 after 90 minutes, Stade de Mbour scored in the first period of extra time to win 2-1.

The violence erupted at the final whistle.

According to the BBC, police fired tear gas at the clashing supporters who were throwing projectiles, including stones at others which led to panic, a stampede, and collapse of the wall.

At least 49 people were seriously injured in the stampede.

A spokesman for the country’s President, Macky Sall, said campaign for upcoming elections would be suspended on Sunday as a mark of respect, and that there should be “punishments serving as a warning.”

Some senators, including Shehu Sani, Danjuma Goje, Dino Melaye, and Usman Bayero Nafada among others accompanied Senator Andy Uba to pick up the Anambra State governorship forms. In a statement released by Azeez Sani, the Head Information Division, 'the attention of the National Examinations Council (NECO) has been drawn to an On-line publication purporting that the Council is currently recruiting new members of staff'. 'The Council enjoins members of the public to disregard the publication, stating that since the present Registrar/Chief Executive assumed office on 1st of August, 2016 no single person has been employed'. APC records Landslide Victory In Ambode’s Polling Unit

Ambode casting his vote on Saturday The All Progressive Congress (APC) has won both the Chairmanship and Councillorship elections in Ward A6 polling Unit 033 located in Ogunmodede College, Papa Epe where the State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode voted on Saturday morning. At the end of counting of the votes cast, the results showed that the APC polled a total of 299 votes for the Chairmanship election as against one polled by the Labour Party and zero vote polled respectively by the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) and Accord Party. For the Councillorship election in the unit, the APC polled a total of 293 votes as against one polled by Labour Party and zero polled by PDP. A renown Yoruba veteran actor, broadcaster, poet and writer, Chief Adebayo Faleti has passed away. Adebayo, an old student of Ibadan Boys High School died Sunday morning at University College Hospital, Ibadan at about 6. am according to sources. Chief Adebayo who happened to be one of the pioneer staff of the first television station in Africa, Western Nigeria Television (WNTV) died at the age of 86. He was responsible for translating Nigeria’s National Anthem from English to Yoruba. He also translated speeches being made by military president of Nigeria Ibrahim Babangida and Chief Ernest Shonekan, Head of National Interim Government of Nigeria, from English to Yoruba.
