Veteran news anchor, Jim Vance dies at 75 after long battle with cancer


Jim Vance, one of the first black major news anchors and Washington DC's longest serving local TV host has died at the age of 75 following a long battle with cancer.

Station president and general manager, Jackie Bradford in a statement said, 'Jim Vance was not only the soul of NBC4 but of the entire Washington area. His smooth voice, brilliant mind and unforgettable laugh leaves each of us with a tremendous void'.

Vance, who won more than a dozen Emmys, was one of the first African-American news anchors to host a show in a major news market in 1972. He became one of former president George H.W. Bush's fishing buddies and a confidante to the city's former mayor, Marion Barry, who died in 2014.

Popular musician Innocent Idibia also known as Tuface who is on a tour in Borno where he thrilled the troops and dedicated a song to the IDPs. The African Queen crooner emphasised the need for the peace to rain in the country, especially in the northeast. He commended the Nigerian Army for the gallant fight they are putting in the counter insurgency war. Tuface who is the ambassador of the UNHCR has been on a tour in Borno state interacting with displaced persons in Ngala and camps around Maiduguri. Ajia, a former Communication for Development Specialist at the United Nations, said this on Saturday at the 21st Annual Lecture of Ijebu Muslim College Old Students’ Association (IMCOSA) in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun. Victoria Beckham has been called out by the design director at Land Rover after she claimed she designed a special edition of the Range Rover for her husband David Beckham. At the launch of a special VB Evoque, the former Spice Girl claimed: "I’ve designed a car that I want to drive, a car I think David wants to drive."
