FG Says Beggars in Nigeria will start paying tax

The Nigerian government has stated that no one would be left out in the campaign to enlarge the tax revenue. According to dailypost,She said some beggars were earning millions and that “proceeds from begging are taxable. You are supposed to pay taxes even if your means of income is begging”. Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun said this in Lagos at a lecture at PWC’s Business School, with the theme: ‘Voluntary Assets and Income Declaration Scheme (VAIDS) Interactive Session for Executives and Business Owners.’ She said to ascertain the income status of the companies/individuals and their lifestyle, investigators would rely on information derived from Bank Verification Number (BVN), records of property ownership, records of foreign exchange allocation, and records of company ownership from the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), among others. TRAGEDY: 14 people burnt to death as tanker collides with commercial bus

FILE PHOTO: FRSC officials at a scene of an accident No fewer than 14 persons have been reported dead in a ghastly tanker and bus collision in Ile-Ife, Osun State on Sunday. Witnesses say the dead, who were consumed in the inferno, include women and children. The accident was said to have occurred at about 12 noon in front of a fuel station, few metres away from the popular Mayfair roundabout. An 18-seater commercial bus heading from Ondo State to Ibadan collided with a diesel-filled tanker that was negotiating a U-turn on the way, witnesses said. It was learnt that on collision, the bus burst into flames, burning most of the passengers beyond recognition. Witnesses told journalists that the extent of damage resulted from the delayed arrival of rescue teams to the accident spot. APC Sweeps Lagos LG Polls

The All Progressives Congress has reportedly won the council election held in all the 20 Local Government Areas and the 37 Local Council Development Areas on Saturday. Early results released by the Lagos Television showed that the APC took several LGAs and LCDAs including Ojokoro, Eti Osa, Lagos Island, Badagry Central, Onigbongbo, Odiolowo/Ojuwoye, Ikorodu West, Ejigbo, Ikeja, Ikorodu, Epe, Lagos Island East, Badagry West, Surulere, Ikorodu Central, Ikoyi/Obalende, Agboyi-Ketu, Eredo and others. Some of the results from the LGs and LCDAs showed the ruling party winning. In Lagos Island LG, APC won with 14,692 votes while PDP got 925 votes, with the Labour Party taking third place with 1211 votes. APC also won in Ikoyi-Obalende LCDA with 7112 votes, PDP got 756 votes while LP got 542 votes. In Eredo LCDA, APC received 10910 votes while PDP got 737 votes. Baltimore police officer allegedly plants drugs at scene of a drug arrest not knowing his body cam was recording (video)

A video recording of a Baltimore police officer planting evidence at the scene of a drug arrest, allegedly so he can arrest a suspect, was captured by the officer's body cam without his knowledge. In the video, the officer can be seen planting the drugs in a cup then walking out to of the area go put on his body camera before returning to the same spot to search for the drugs. "I'm going to check here. Hold on," he said for the benefit of the body cam as though he were just going to that spot for the first time. The officer pretended to search around for some time before he brought out the container where he had earlier hidden the drugs and acted like he just found it. Maryland's Office of the Public Defender released the incriminating video. Police cameras can include a feature that saves 30 seconds of video before activation so that's probably how the video was captured before his body cam was turned on. 5% Salary Increase Not Possible - Ebonyi State Governor

Ebonyi State governor, David Umahi on Friday stated that he has no powers to increase salaries of local government workers. Threatening to sack any civil servant that indulges in politics ahead of the 2019 elections, he also said 13th-month salary will no longer be paid. Umahi spoke at a meeting with members of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Ebonyi state chapter and other affiliated unions at the Government House. His words: “We are doing everything to protect the local government but unfortunately the present chairmen said they cannot afford to pay the 5 percent salary increase and I don’t have the powers to actually increase LG workers salaries. “If the situation improves, I will increase the salary again.
