11 Things To Do On Valentine’s Day If You’re Single
If you're single on Valentine's Day, there are a few ways you can cope. Firstly, you can forget the whole thing exists and live your life like it were any other boring day — a solid plan. Secondly, you could spend the day wallowing in a state of self-pity because you don't have a date (I strongly advise against this). Or thirdly, you could make the most of your singlehood and its seemingly unfortunate timing — my personal favorite tactic. There's no shortage of things to do on Valentine's Day if you're single. Trust me.
In fact, you might be better off than your friends who are coupled up. Think about it. You don't have to put a whole lot of thought into your Valentine's Day plans or spend way too much money on flowers and chocolates. There's no pressure to make the day special for anyone but yourself and what's great about that? Well, no one knows you better than you know yourself. Say goodbye to ghosts of Valentine's Days past that failed to meet your Hollywood-inspired expectations and treat yourself to the Valentine's Day you've always deserved.
If you're short on ideas, here are 25 fun things to do on Valentine's Day because, to quote Jessica Day in New Girl, you are "single and sufficient."
1. Host A Valentine’s Day Hater party
All haters unite! There are many people like you, who aren’t a fan of this day. Get together and chit-chat about your common dislike about this mush fest of a day.
2. Go On A Blind Date
I’m sure your friends could fix you up on a blind date. There is a weird thrill in exploring the unknown on Valentine’s Day. It’s possible that the person you’ve been avoiding all this time because you’ve been unsure, might actually just surprise you with the most romantic date ever. Or you’ll crash and burn, either way, you tried.
3. Give Dating Apps A Chance
Try out apps like Happn, Hinge, Tinder, etc. Every app that you’ve cringed at before, could actually find you the love of your life. Anything is possible!
4. Go For A Movie With All Of Your Single Friends
Gather all your single friends and go for a movie. Whatever the genre you’ll prefer, be it horror, rom-com, or even action movies. Get out there and enjoy the day cause there is no reason you can’t!
5. Have Dinner With Your Family Or Make Yourself A Fancy Dinner
With the ridiculous prices at restaurants on Valentine's Day, taking yourself out to a fancy dinner may not be worth it. Instead, try making a recipe you've always wanted to try — or order your favorite takeout meal — and breakout the champagne.
It’s also the best day to spend some quality time with your family. Cook them some dinner.
6. Babysit For Parents Who’d Like To Celebrate
Many couples would want to go out with their partners and celebrate this day. Unfortunately, many of them have children. So, make yourself useful this day and babysit for them. Good karma anyone?
7. Order In
Stay home, and order in. The entire city will be out on dinners and dates. You’d be better off at home! Plus, it’s a working day the next day, so you rather call it an early night.
8. Pamper Yourself
Treat yourself to a spa day! Massages, manicures, pedicures, and the works, go all out. Make a beautiful day out of it, filled with some quality you time.
9. Visit A Cake Shop
Stuff your face with some cake! Go to a nice bakery, and go try different types of cake. You know what they say, nothing comforts you better than some chocolate!
10. Stock Up On Some Ice Cream
Yep, it’s that time of the year. The day that probably sells the most amount of ice cream. If you’re feeling down and out, stock up on ice cream, play a romantic movie and give into the feels. You never know, prince charming could be around the corner.
It’s not the best day for single people to enjoy, but it’s up to you to make it a fun day anyway. Go try these things out, and let us know what you’re planning to do in the comments below.
11. Just Ignore it
This year Valentine's Day falls on a Wednesday — not exactly a day of the week where people go all out, even those in relationships. So if you're not feeling the love this Valentine's Day, why not just ignore it? You can come home from work, put on your favorite jammies, order a whole pizza that you don't have to share, and have yourself fun time rolling solo.
Valentine's Day can be romantic, but romance doesn't always have to be about love. Romance, in the literary sense of the word, is just as wonderful an experience. So if you're single this Valentine's Day, don't sweat it! You have options — you always have jammies and pizza — so no matter what you choose, you'll have a fine time for yourself.
