US regulators are struggling to rein in illegal cryptocurrency offerings

Regulators are in uncharted territory trying to regulate illegal cryptocurrency public coin offerings, US officials told Congress today. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) chairman John Clayton had harsh words for those dodging SEC regulations today at a Senate banking committee hearing: “Many ICOs [initial coin offerings] are being conducted illegally. Their promoters and other participants are not following our security laws,” Clayton said. “Some people say that’s because the law isn’t clear. I do not buy that for a moment.” Clayton and J. Christopher Giancarlo, chairman of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), testified today in front of members of the US Senate banking committee and answered their questions on virtual currencies. Police speaks on Apapa mayhem, arrests cop who killed tanker driver

Lagos State Police Command has arrested the policeman, who allegedly shot a tanker driver dead along Burma Road, Apapa. The command said 18 suspected hoodlums who allegedly caused mayhem in the area following the killing have also been apprehended. Command’s spokesperson, ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole, on Wednesday said police received a distress call from the Chief Security Officer of a new generation bank located in the area which they responded to. “The caller said hoodlums were trying to take laws into their hands by setting the bank ablaze following the shooting of a tank driver by a policeman attached to the bank during an altercation. “Operatives of the command including the Area Commander,Apapa, the Rapid Response Squad, and other security agents quickly rushed to the scene to take charge of the situation. “The State Commissioner of Police, Mr Fatai Owoseni, was also present at the scene of the incident. “If not for the quick intervention of the Police, the hoodlums...

APC records Landslide Victory In Ambode’s Polling Unit

Ambode casting his vote on Saturday The All Progressive Congress (APC) has won both the Chairmanship and Councillorship elections in Ward A6 polling Unit 033 located in Ogunmodede College, Papa Epe where the State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode voted on Saturday morning. At the end of counting of the votes cast, the results showed that the APC polled a total of 299 votes for the Chairmanship election as against one polled by the Labour Party and zero vote polled respectively by the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) and Accord Party. For the Councillorship election in the unit, the APC polled a total of 293 votes as against one polled by Labour Party and zero polled by PDP. In the second polling unit in the ward, APC polled 298 votes for the Chairmanship election as against zero vote polled by the PDP and Labour. Baltimore police officer allegedly plants drugs at scene of a drug arrest not knowing his body cam was recording (video)

A video recording of a Baltimore police officer planting evidence at the scene of a drug arrest, allegedly so he can arrest a suspect, was captured by the officer's body cam without his knowledge. In the video, the officer can be seen planting the drugs in a cup then walking out to of the area go put on his body camera before returning to the same spot to search for the drugs. "I'm going to check here. Hold on," he said for the benefit of the body cam as though he were just going to that spot for the first time. The officer pretended to search around for some time before he brought out the container where he had earlier hidden the drugs and acted like he just found it. Maryland's Office of the Public Defender released the incriminating video. Police cameras can include a feature that saves 30 seconds of video before activation so that's probably how the video was captured before his body cam was turned on.
