NANS pleads with ASUU, fed govt over impending nationwide strike

As it becomes clearer by the day that another nationwide strike by university lecturers seems inevitable, students under the umbrella body of National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) are making frantic efforts to appeal to both the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to review their stands and avoid the standoff, which will definitely bode ill for the sector. Police speaks on Apapa mayhem, arrests cop who killed tanker driver

Lagos State Police Command has arrested the policeman, who allegedly shot a tanker driver dead along Burma Road, Apapa. The command said 18 suspected hoodlums who allegedly caused mayhem in the area following the killing have also been apprehended. Command’s spokesperson, ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole, on Wednesday said police received a distress call from the Chief Security Officer of a new generation bank located in the area which they responded to. “The caller said hoodlums were trying to take laws into their hands by setting the bank ablaze following the shooting of a tank driver by a policeman attached to the bank during an altercation. “Operatives of the command including the Area Commander,Apapa, the Rapid Response Squad, and other security agents quickly rushed to the scene to take charge of the situation. “The State Commissioner of Police, Mr Fatai Owoseni, was also present at the scene of the incident. “If not for the quick intervention of the Police, the hoodlums...

Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, yesterday, said that the plot to Islamise Nigeria is real but would be resisted. Kanu said that no part of Nigeria within Biafra territory will be islamised in his life time. The IPOB leader said this while addressing a huge crowd of Biafra activists when he visited Nri, the ancestral home of Ndigbo. At Nri, Kanu, who was accompanied by his wife, visited the historic “Ohianwehi” revered as “forest of life” by Igbo tradition. It is believed that it was where the first burnt offering was scarified by the Jewish Igbo ancestors when they migrated from Israel about 300 years ago. Japanese Airline Confirms Future BTC Payment Option In The Works

Peach Aviation, a low-cost airline in Japan, has confirmed that their plan to allow   Bitcoin (BTC)   as payment is only delayed, not cancelled. Peach Aviation had   initially announced in May 2017   that customers would be able to use Bitcoin as a payment method by the end of the year. However, in December 2017, the plan was postponed until March 2018. The airline had   partnered with crypto exchange BITpoint Japan   for the new BTC payment system as well as for plans to open Bitcoin ATMs at airports around Japan. Japan has   recognized Bitcoin as a legal payment   method in the country since April 2017. Man Bags 16 Years Jail Term For Killing 21 Cats...

A Santa Clara County Superior Court judge has sentenced a 26-year-old California man to 16 years in prison for killing 21 cats, some of which he lured from people's homes. Robert Roy Farmer pleaded guilty last year to 21 felony counts of animal cruelty and one count each of misdemeanor battery and being under the influence. The cats began mysteriously disappearing from San Jose's Cambrian Park neighborhood in September 2015. Then cats began turning up dead, the Mercury News of San Jose reported Friday Farmer was found Oct. 8, 2015 in a Home Depot parking lot, sleeping in his car with a dead cat curled up in the center console. In his car, police found chunks of fur, blood, fur-covered gloves and a hunting knife. from associated press.

National Vice-President of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, South-South Zone Mr. Eddie Bekon, his wife and child dies rom a terrible gas explosion

Eddie and his family died on Sunday at the Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki Ebonyi State, following severe burns sustained from the incident. However Briefing newsmen in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital, the chairman of SWAN, Mr. Chukwuemeka Opara, said Eddie died as a result of gas explosion which occurred in their compound in Ikom, Cross River State, three weeks ago. The incident reportedly affected his entire household, including his neighbour in whose flat the explosion happened. Opara said, “Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, Ebonyi chapter, joins other chapters across the nation to mourn its departed National Vice President, South-South zone, Mr. Eddie Bekon, who passed on at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, on Sunday, July 16, 2017.” Opara disclosed that the family had been in the Intensive Care Unit at the hospital since they were admitted, stating that the explosion claimed the lives of Eddie’s wife and one of his children, while his other children...
